Whether you can move your fax number to another provider depends on where the number came from. This article explains how to tell and what your options are if your number can't be ported out.
In short: Only numbers that were ported into Fax.Plus from another provider can be ported out. Numbers assigned to you from the Fax.Plus number pool can't be ported out, transferred or purchased.
Which numbers can be ported out?
- Ported-in numbers - eligible. You had this number with another provider (for example a phone company, eFax or RingCentral) and moved it to Fax.Plus through our porting process.
- Fax.Plus-assigned numbers - not eligible. You picked this number when you subscribed, as a random or custom number. It belongs to the Fax.Plus number pool and stays with Fax.Plus.
How do I know which type of number I have?
Your number was most likely ported in if:
- You used the number before you joined Fax.Plus.
- You filled out a Porting Request Form and signed a Letter of Authorization (LOA) when you joined.
- You received an email from us confirming that your port was complete.
Your number was most likely assigned by Fax.Plus if:
- You chose it at checkout and never used it with another provider.
- You're on the Basic plan. Ported numbers require a Premium plan or higher, so a number on the Basic plan was almost always purchased from Fax.Plus.
Note: The number you pick at checkout while a port is in progress is a temporary number. If your port completed, your own number replaced it, and that ported number is eligible.
Still not sure? Email support@alohi.com from the email address on your Fax.Plus account and we'll check for you.
Used a different email when you ported your number? If your number was ported in under another email address or by a colleague, include that email address and, if you have it, the port completion email we sent you. This helps us find the original porting record quickly.
My number was assigned by Fax.Plus - what are my options?
You can't take the number with you, but you have a few options:
- Keep your Fax.Plus number. If you're switching to cut costs or because you fax less, a lower plan may suit you better. See How to downgrade your Fax.Plus plan, or contact us and we'll help you find the right fit.
- Plan a transition period. Get your new number from your new provider and keep your Fax.Plus plan active for a few weeks while you let your contacts know. This way, you don't miss incoming faxes during the switch.
- Tell us what you need. If you're moving because of a missing feature or an integration, let us know. We may be able to help before you switch.
My number was ported in - how do I port it out?
Follow the steps in How do I retrieve my port-out PIN to move my Fax.Plus number to another provider?
Keep your Fax.Plus plan active until your new provider confirms the port is complete. Then cancel your plan to avoid further charges.
