Checking the status of your port-in

Who can use this feature?

Available on Premium, Business and Enterprise plans.

Accessible to Owners and Admins.

Porting a number to Fax.Plus usually takes 2-4 weeks, depending mostly on how quickly your current provider responds. This article explains each stage, what we need from you, and how to know when your port is complete.

Tip: We email you at every stage. Check your inbox (and spam folder) for emails from support@alohi.com with "Porting Info" or "Porting Initiation" in the subject line.

Where is my port right now?

Stage 1: Porting Request Form received

You'll receive an email with "Porting Info" in the subject line. Within one business day, we confirm whether your number can be ported and tell you the next steps.

What you need to do: Nothing yet - wait for our reply.

Stage 2: Waiting for your plan and documents

Your number is eligible, but the port hasn't started yet. We can only start once we have:

  • A Premium, Business or Enterprise plan on your account (with a temporary number).
  • A signed Letter of Authorization (LOA), filled out electronically - handwritten forms are often rejected by carriers. See How to fill out the LOA.
  • Your most recent invoice from your current provider showing your name and the number.
  • Your porting PIN or account number, if your current provider uses one.

What you need to do: Send the documents by replying to your "Porting Info" email, or submit them through the Initiate Porting Form.

Submitted the form but haven't heard about a transfer date? The most common reason is that we haven't received the documents above. Your port starts only once we have everything.

Stage 3: Port submitted to your current provider

You'll receive an email with "Porting Initiation" in the subject line, confirming we've received your documents and submitted the request. Your current provider now reviews it.

What you need to do: Keep your current line active. Use your temporary Fax.Plus number in the meantime.

Stage 4: Action needed (only if your provider rejects or pauses the port)

If your provider rejects the request or puts it on hold, we'll email you with the reason and exactly what's needed. The most common reasons are a missing or incorrect PIN, or details on the LOA that don't match your provider's records.

What you need to do: Reply as soon as possible. Providers give a short deadline to fix a rejection - if it passes, the request is cancelled and must be restarted with new documents. See Common Porting Rejections and How to Prevent Them.

Stage 5: Transfer date confirmed

Your provider has approved the port and we'll email you the transfer date.

What you need to do: Nothing - on that date, your number moves to Fax.Plus automatically, with no downtime.

Stage 6: Port complete

Your number now appears in your Fax.Plus account and replaces your temporary number. If your account has more than one number, it replaces the one you told us.

What you need to do:

  • Send a test fax to your number to confirm you're receiving.
  • Only now, cancel your service with your old provider.

Frequently asked questions

How can I check if my port is complete?
Go to the Numbers tab in your Fax.Plus account. If your own number is listed there instead of the temporary number, the port is complete.

My provider says the port is complete, but I don't see my number in Fax.Plus.
Reply to your porting email and let us know. We'll check and assign the number to your account.

It's been more than 4 weeks. What should I do?
First, check that you've sent all the documents in Stage 2 and replied to any requests from us. If you have, reply to your porting email and we'll check with the carrier.

How do I ask for an update?
Reply to your existing "Porting Info" or "Porting Initiation" email from the email address on your Fax.Plus account. Please don't open a new request - keeping everything in one thread lets us find your port faster.

Can I speed up the port?
The timing depends on your current provider. The best way to avoid delays is to send complete documents with details that match your provider's records exactly, and to reply quickly if we ask for anything.

Can I cancel my port request?
Yes, as long as your provider hasn't scheduled a transfer date yet. Reply to your porting email and tell us which number to cancel. You can keep using your temporary Fax.Plus number. Once a transfer date is scheduled, the port can no longer be cancelled.

Can I choose the date for my port?
The transfer date is scheduled by your current provider, not by Fax.Plus. If you need the port to happen on a specific date, contact your current provider to arrange it.
