You can move your existing fax number to Fax.Plus and keep using it. Porting is free - you only pay for the plan you use with the number. Here's the whole process in the order it happens.
Keep your current line active until we confirm the port is complete. Don't cancel your service with your current provider first, even if they suggest it. A number that's been cancelled can't be ported and may be lost.
Step 1: Check your number can be ported
You don't need a paid plan for this step.
- Make sure the number is active with your current provider and that they allow porting out.
- Submit the Porting Request Form.
- We check whether your number can be ported and reply within one business day.

Step 2: Choose a plan that supports ported numbers
Once we confirm your number is eligible, subscribe to a plan that supports it. For US numbers, that's Premium or higher (Premium, Business or Enterprise). Requirements for other countries may differ - we'll tell you in our reply.
- Ported numbers can't be moved to the Basic plan, now or later. If you plan to port, choose Premium or higher from the start.
- Choose your billing cycle carefully. It isn't possible to switch from annual to monthly later.
- Need more than one number on the account, for example to keep the temporary number as well? That requires Business or Enterprise.
Step 3: Use the temporary number while you wait
When you subscribe, you'll be asked to pick a fax number. This is normal - it's a temporary number so you can start faxing straight away. When the port completes, your own number replaces it automatically.
If your account has more than one number, tell us which number the ported number should replace.
Step 4: Send us your documents
We'll ask you for:
- A signed Letter of Authorization (LOA) - see how to fill out the LOA.
- Your most recent invoice from your current provider showing the number.
The details on the LOA must match exactly what your provider has on file (name, address, billing telephone number). Mismatches are the most common reason ports are rejected. Ask your provider for your Customer Service Record (CSR) and copy the details from it.
Step 5: The porting PIN
We don't need a PIN to start the port. But if your provider has a PIN or account number on your line, send it to us - many providers reject ports without it, and it speeds things up.
- Ask your provider: "Is there a port-out PIN or account number required to port this number?"
- If your provider says they don't issue PINs and asks you to cancel the line instead, don't cancel it. Tell us, and we'll submit the port without a PIN.
Step 6: The carrier transfers your number
- We submit the port request to your current provider.
- They approve a transfer date, or ask for more information. If they reject the request, we'll tell you exactly what's needed and by when - rejections come with a short deadline to fix them.
- On the transfer date, your number goes live on Fax.Plus automatically, with no downtime.
The whole process usually takes 2-4 weeks, depending mostly on how quickly your current provider responds.
Only after we confirm the port is complete should you cancel your service with your old provider.
Common questions
Do I need a plan before I submit the porting form?
No. Submit the form first. Subscribe once we confirm your number can be ported.
Can I port on Premium and then downgrade to Basic?
No. A ported number needs Premium or higher for as long as it's on Fax.Plus.
Does porting cost anything?
No, porting in is free. You only pay for your plan.
My port was rejected - what now?
