When you sign up for a Fax.Plus paid plan, you can request a fax number in a specific area code. This request is best-effort. If a number in your requested area code isn't immediately available, we assign you a number in a nearby area or fall back to a random US number. Here's why and what to do.
Why this happens
Fax numbers are assigned from a constantly changing carrier inventory. The area code you selected is currently unavailable due to a temporary backorder.
We’re actively working with our carrier partners to resolve this, and inventory is typically replenished on a weekly basis. Try again in about a week if you’d like to request that specific area code.
To avoid delays in getting you started, we automatically assign the closest available number instead-this may be from a nearby area code or a random US number-so you can begin faxing right away.
How to know which area code you got
If your account is on the Basic or Premium plan: Log in to Fax.Plus and go to Settings → Faxing → Fax Number. The assigned number is shown there.
If your account is on the Business or Enterprise plan: Log in to Fax.Plus and go to Numbers tab. The assigned numbers are shown there.
I want a different area code
Check again in about a week to see if your preferred number has become available. If it is, refer to the following article for step-by-step instructions on how to change your number. Please note that a one-time fee of $9.99 will apply for the number change.
Will I lose my fax history if I swap?
No. Your faxes (sent and received) stay on your account. Only the fax number changes.
Can I bring my own number?
Yes. If you already have a fax number from another carrier, you can port it to Fax.Plus.
Toll-free and other special numbers
We offer toll-free numbers (Premium, Business, Enterprise plans) and certain country-specific numbers on request. See How to get a toll-free number on Fax.Plus. We do not offer vanity numbers.
