If you sent a fax and then closed the browser tab before it finished uploading or processing, here's what to check.
What happens when you close the tab during sending
A fax goes through several stages between when you click Send and when it actually transmits:
- Uploading: Your file uploads from your computer to Fax.Plus servers.
- Processing: We convert your file into the fax-ready format.
- Queued: The fax is in line to send.
- Sending: The fax is actively transmitting.
- Sent: Confirmation received from the destination.
If you close the tab during stages 1 (Uploading) or 2 (Processing), the fax may not have reached our servers fully and won't appear in your Sent or Outbox.
If you close the tab from stage 3 onward, the fax is on our servers and will continue normally regardless of your browser state. It will appear in your Sent section once delivered.
How to find a fax that may be missing
- Refresh and check the Outbox. Log back in to Fax.Plus → Faxes → Outbox. If the fax is processing or queued, it'll be here.
- Check the Sent section. If the fax already went through, it'll be in Faxes → Sent.
- Check your email. If the fax succeeded or failed, you should have received an email notification.
If the fax isn't anywhere
The fax most likely didn't make it to our servers. The upload was interrupted before completion. You'll need to send it again.
To prevent this:
- Stay on the page until you see a confirmation message that the fax has been queued or sent.
- Use a stable internet connection for large files.
- Avoid switching networks (e.g., from Wi-Fi to cellular) during the upload.
"I see it in Outbox but it's stuck"
Faxes can sit in Outbox briefly while queued. If a fax has been in Outbox for more than 30 minutes:
Check the fax status by clicking on it:
- If it shows Insufficient Credit, add credit
- If it shows Scheduled for Sending, it's in the queue. See Why is the status of my outbound fax "scheduled for sending"?
- See How long does it take to send a fax ?
