Your fax header is the line printed at the top of every page you send. It displays the date and time of the transmission, the sender and recipient fax numbers, the page count, and an optional custom text.
It's important to note that the timestamp aligns with the sender's timezone. Below, you'll find a breakdown of how the fax header appears for the recipient under various plans:
With the Custom Fax Header settings, you can control how this information appears to your recipients:
- Custom Text - a short text of your choice (for example, your company name) shown in the header.
- Date Format - choose how the date is displayed, e.g. YYYY/MM/DD, DD.MM.YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY, and more.
-
Fax Number Format - choose how the sender and recipient fax numbers are displayed:
- International (with country code) - numbers appear in E.164 format, e.g. +1 762 291 5615. This is the default.
- National (without country code) - numbers appear in local format without the country code, e.g. (762) 291-5615.
This is especially useful if your recipients expect a local date or number format. For example, faxes sent to recipients in Japan can display the date as YYYY/MM/DD and the numbers in national format, so your faxes look familiar and trustworthy to local recipients.
Note: These settings only change how the header is displayed on your outgoing faxes. They do not affect how faxes are routed or how numbers are stored in your account, contacts, or the API - those always use the international (E.164) format.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to change anything for my faxes to keep working as before? No. If you don't touch these settings, your fax header will continue to use the default date format and international number format.
Does the National format change the number my recipients should dial to reach me? No. Only the way the number is displayed in the header changes. Your fax number itself stays the same, and all routing continues to use the full international number.
Will this change how numbers appear in my Faxes list or in the API? No. The setting applies only to the header printed on outgoing faxes. Numbers everywhere else remain in international (E.164) format.
