What happens to my uploaded files after sending a fax via Fax.Plus?

We recognize the paramount importance of document security and privacy for our users. To provide transparency and assurance, we offer a detailed overview of the lifecycle of your uploaded files within our service, ensuring you are informed every step of the way.

Uploading and sending your fax

When you upload a file to Fax.Plus to send as a fax, the file is temporarily stored on our secure servers to facilitate the fax transmission. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

  1. File Upload: You select and upload your document to the Fax.Plus platform. The file upload is performed with TLS enabled.
  2. Fax Preparation: The file is prepared for faxing, which includes converting it into a suitable format.
  3. Fax Transmission: Your fax is sent to the recipient's fax machine or fax service.

After the fax is sent

Once your fax has been successfully transmitted, here's what happens to the uploaded file:
  • Storage: All faxes are stored in a fully encrypted archive for your future reference. As long as you have an active paid plan with us, we offer unlimited lifetime storage for all faxes. You also have the option of disabling the storage of your faxes. Our Document Retention policy allows owners and admins of corporate accounts to specify the number of days Fax.Plus should retain each fax after creation. The Document Retention Policy is only available to the users of the Enterprise plan.
  • Encryption: All faxed files are encrypted at rest using 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), with unique encryption keys for each user which we do not have access to.
  • Transport Layer Security: We support TLS 1.3, which is faster and more secure than TLS 1.2, enhancing the privacy of the encrypted data.
  • Deletion: Should you choose to delete a fax, it will be removed in line with our privacy policy and terms of service.

Your privacy and security

We are committed to protecting your information. Here are the measures we take to ensure the highest levels of security:
  • Compliance with Regulations: We comply with ISO/IEC 27001, CCPA, GDPR, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, and other privacy regulations to ensure that your data is handled correctly. For more information, refer to our compliance page here
  • State-of-the-Art Security: Our servers are protected with advanced security measures to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches. We perform regular security audits.
  • User Control: You have full control over your files. You can access your fax archive, download records, and delete files in accordance with our privacy policy and terms of service.
