Backup and Restore creates a portable copy of your Scan.Plus data — folders, documents, thumbnails, and app settings — so you can move to a new device, recover from a reset, or keep a safe local copy. Backups are saved as .sc-bck files that you control: send them to cloud storage, email them to yourself, or save them locally.
Backup and Restore is available on both Android and iOS. Backups are platform-specific: an Android backup can only be restored on Android, and an iOS backup can only be restored on iOS.
Before you start
Open Settings → Backup and Restore. The screen shows an estimated backup size — make sure your device has enough free space for both the backup file and a temporary working copy.
Create a backup
- Open Settings → Backup and Restore.
- Under Back up your Scan.Plus data, tap Create a backup.
- Wait for the backup to finish. Larger libraries take longer; keep the app open until it completes.
- When you see Your file is ready to be shared, tap Share and save or send the
.sc-bckfile wherever you'd like — Google Drive, iCloud, email, the Files app, or another cloud storage service.
We recommend keeping backups in at least two places (for example, cloud storage and a local copy) in case one source is lost.
Restore a backup
Warning: Restoring replaces all current Scan.Plus data and settings on this device. This cannot be undone. If you have unsaved work, create a fresh backup first.
- Open Settings → Backup and Restore.
- Under Restore a previous back-up, tap Restore a backup.
- Confirm the warning that restoring will override your local data.
- Select your
.sc-bckfile. - Tap Restore now? to confirm.
- Restart the app when prompted.
What's included in a backup
A .sc-bck file contains everything Scan.Plus stores locally:
- Folders and document records
- Document PDF files
- Thumbnails
- Auto-save job data
- AI-related local entries
- App preferences and settings
- App log file data
Troubleshooting
"The selected file is not a valid Scan.Plus backup." The file is corrupted, incomplete, or not a .sc-bck file. Try a different backup, or re-download the file if it was synced from cloud storage (interrupted downloads are a common cause).
"This backup was created on another platform and cannot be restored." Backups are platform-specific. An Android backup can only be restored on an Android device, and an iOS backup can only be restored on an iOS device. Use a backup that matches your current device's operating system.
"This backup version is not supported by this app version." The backup was made with a newer (or much older) version of Scan.Plus. Update the app from Google Play or the App Store and try again. If the backup is older, restoring it on a compatible app version may be required.
"Not enough free space to complete this operation." Free up storage on your device — clear unused apps, photos, or downloads — and retry. The operation needs room for both the backup file and temporary working data.
"Backup operation cancelled." The backup was interrupted, usually because the app was closed or the device went to sleep mid-process. Retry and keep Scan.Plus open in the foreground until it finishes.
