We want to be clear about what Scan.Plus offers for free and what's behind a subscription. Here's the full breakdown.
Scan.Plus Free
Available without payment:
- Basic document scanning with your phone camera.
- PDF generation from scanned pages.
- Multi-page PDFs with reordering.
- Save scanned PDFs locally on your device.
- Manual edit of brightness, contrast, and rotation.
- Send to Fax.Plus for direct faxing.
- Send to Sign.Plus for direct signature requests.
Scan.Plus Premium / Pro (subscription)
Available with subscription:
- Advanced editing including signature, annotation, and text recognition (OCR).
- Cloud backup of your scans.
- Higher resolution scans.

Why premium features require a subscription
Premium features involve ongoing costs:
- Cloud processing for OCR (text recognition) and enhancement costs us per-scan.
- Storage for cloud backups is an ongoing expense per user.
The "free + premium" model lets light users get value from the app without paying while keeping the service sustainable.
"I had Pro access through my Fax.Plus or Sign.Plus plan, why am I being asked to subscribe now?"
Scan.Plus Pro is included for free with paid Fax.Plus and Sign.Plus plans. If your Fax.Plus or Sign.Plus plan was downgraded to the free tier, your bundled Scan.Plus Pro access will end along with it.
To restore Pro access, you have two options:
- Reactivate your Fax.Plus or Sign.Plus paid plan, which will automatically restore your Scan.Plus Pro entitlement.
- Subscribe to Scan.Plus directly through the app.
If you believe you still have an active paid Fax.Plus or Sign.Plus plan but Scan.Plus Pro features are unavailable:
- Try the Restore Purchases button in the app Settings.
- Make sure you're signed in with the same account used for your Fax.Plus or Sign.Plus subscription.
- If the issue persists, contact support@alohi.com and we'll look into it.
"The new splash screen makes me think I have to subscribe"
The new app version shows a subscription overview screen on launch for new users. If you're an existing user who saw this screen unexpectedly:
- The Restore Purchases button at the top of the screen restores your existing Pro entitlement.
- Tap it once with your existing Apple ID / Google account active.
- The app should recognize your purchase and let you continue.
If it doesn't recognize the purchase, contact support.
Free vs. paid for occasional users
If you only scan occasionally and don't need OCR, cloud backup, or high-resolution output, the Free plan covers the essentials, including sending to Fax.Plus and Sign.Plus. If you regularly need text recognition, want your scans backed up to the cloud, or need higher resolution output, Premium is the better fit.
Subscription managed by Apple or Google
Scan.Plus subscriptions purchased through the iOS App Store or Google Play are managed by Apple or Google respectively. This means:
- You cancel through your Apple ID or Google Play account, not in the Scan.Plus app.
- Refund requests must go through Apple or Google.
- We cannot directly cancel or refund these subscriptions.
